11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio also took a moment to reminisce about their groundbreaking wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international fame more than a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its stark and somber atmosphere, The Alters introduces a narrative that's both passionate and frequently infused with humor, focusing on the trials faced by alternate versions of its protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep-seated link between the two games.
Both titles, though set in entirely different worlds, are unified by the overarching theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the gritty realities of a war-torn city, where they must manage scarce resources and navigate daily survival challenges to keep their group of civilians alive. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a relentless race against time, with players needing to maneuver their mobile base to escape a merciless sun that disintegrates everything in its path.
These games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories to secure vital resources. The main distinction between the two lies in their protagonists: This War of Mine puts players in charge of a diverse group of civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique ensemble of Jan Dolski's alternate selves.
The Alters is scheduled to launch in 2025 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Excitingly, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass right from day one, ensuring broad accessibility to players eager to explore this innovative narrative experience.
