7 Days To Die offers diverse mission types, with infested missions standing out as particularly challenging yet rewarding. This guide covers everything you need to know about tackling these missions, maximizing your loot, and reaping the benefits.
To begin, visit one of the five traders (Rekt, Jen, Bob, Hugh, or Joe) in the game. Mission difficulty depends on the tier (higher tiers are harder) and biome (Wasteland missions are tougher than forest missions). Infested missions unlock after completing 10 Tier 1 missions, granting access to Tier 2 and beyond. Expect significantly more and tougher zombies, including radiated, cop, and feral types. Tier 6 infested missions are the most difficult but offer the best rewards for well-prepared players. The objective remains consistent across all tiers: eliminate all enemies within the designated area.
Upon reaching the Point of Interest (POI), activate the mission marker. Leaving the POI or dying results in mission failure. The game often directs players down specific, often perilous, paths. To avoid traps and ambushes, explore alternative routes, bypassing areas with obvious lighting (torches, lanterns). Carrying building blocks allows for quick escape from traps or creating unexpected vantage points.
Zombies are tracked as red dots on the screen; size indicates proximity. Always prioritize headshots. Be aware of special zombie types:
Zombie Type | Abilities | Countermeasures |
---|---|---|
Cops | Spit toxic vomit, explode when injured | Observe their pre-spit posture for cover. Maintain distance to avoid explosions. |
Spiders | Jump long distances | Listen for their screech before they jump. Aim for quick headshots. |
Screamers | Summon other zombies | Prioritize eliminating them to prevent overwhelming hordes. |
Demolition Zombies | Carry explosive packages | Avoid hitting their chests; run if the explosive starts beeping. |
The final room typically contains high-tier loot, but also a large number of zombies. Ensure you're fully healed and prepared before entering. Knowing your escape route is crucial.
Once all zombies are eliminated, the objective changes; return to the trader to claim your reward. Collect all loot from the final room, including the infested cache containing valuable ammo and supplies.
Rewards are randomized but influenced by game stage, loot stage (boosted by the Lucky Looter skill and Treasure Hunter mod), mission tier, and skill points. Investing in the "A Daring Adventurer" perk significantly improves rewards. At rank 4, it allows selecting two rewards instead of one, making it invaluable for acquiring rare items like solar cells, crucibles, or legendary parts. Sell any unwanted items to the trader for additional XP.
