AGDQ 2025: Over $2.5M Raised for Charity

Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 Raises Over $2.5 Million for Cancer Research

From January 5 to January 13, the Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 event successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, surpassing the 2024 total by more than $100,000. This annual winter event, hosted by Games Done Quick (GDQ), featured an array of speedruns from popular games like Crazy Taxi, Super Metroid, and many others across various genres.

About Awesome Games Done Quick

Awesome Games Done Quick is one of the two flagship events organized by GDQ each year, with the other being Summer Games Done Quick, held in July. In addition to these main events, GDQ also hosts smaller events such as Frame Fatales and GDQ Express to keep the community engaged throughout the year. Notably, in October 2024, GDQ organized an impromptu Disaster Relief Done Quick event in response to Hurricane Helene's impact on the Southeastern US. This event raised over $45,000 in just over two days for Direct Relief, a charity focused on emergency aid and medical response.

Impact on Cancer Research

The funds raised during AGDQ 2025 contribute significantly to the Prevent Cancer Foundation's mission, which emphasizes early cancer detection, prevention, research, and outreach programs. This year's total adds to the over $26 million that GDQ events have raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation across multiple runs. AGDQ 2025 was held in Pittsburgh and kicked off with a swift run of the Switch version of Pikmin by speedrunner Ray0ken, completed within an hour.

Highlight of AGDQ 2025

One of the standout moments of AGDQ 2025 was the 18-minute run of Crazy Taxi, a beloved Dreamcast game. The run, executed by speedrunner Chuckles825, was accompanied by a live band that played the game's copyrighted music, circumventing streaming issues. This innovative approach not only entertained the audience but also raised over $24,000 in donations.

The event concluded with a thrilling randomized, four-player race of the SNES classic Super Metroid, where runners Eddie and Andy finished within a mere second of each other, showcasing the high level of competition and skill at AGDQ.

Looking Ahead

GDQ's next event, Summer Games Done Quick 2025, is scheduled to take place in Minneapolis starting July 6, and will support Doctors Without Borders. As GDQ continues to grow and innovate, it remains a vital force in both the gaming community and charitable giving.
