The Xenomorph's story begins in the first of the two crossover films, AVP. Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, known for Resident Evil and Event Horizon, this film introduces the "battle of the titans" concept that originated in a 1989 comic. Set in 2004, it reveals that Predators (Yautja) have been visiting Earth for millennia, with ancient cults sacrificing themselves to Xenomorph facehuggers to create adult Xenomorphs for the Predators to hunt. Predictably, the 2004 hunting trip does not go as planned.
