How to Use Bow in Monster Hunter Wilds: Moves and Combos

The bow in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, while not a beginner-friendly weapon, offers incredible potential for skilled hunters. Its unique mechanics demand a different approach than other weapons, requiring careful stamina management. Each attack consumes stamina; light attacks use less than charged attacks, which significantly deplete your stamina bar.

Mastering the bow involves understanding its control scheme. Basic attacks are simple—left-click (PC), R2 (PlayStation), or RT (Xbox). However, the bow’s true power lies in its diverse combos, such as Dragon Piercer and Thousand Dragons. The table below details the controls:

New archers should spend time in the training grounds to familiarize themselves with these controls and combos before engaging monsters. This practice will significantly improve your hunting success.

One key advantage of the bow is its ability to exploit monster weak points. Focus Fire: Hailstorm, activated by holding Shift (PC), R1 (PlayStation), or RB (Xbox) after aiming, automatically targets these vulnerable areas, indicated by red spots on the monster.

Coatings are another crucial element. These special concoctions enhance your arrows’ effectiveness. Generated passively while hitting monsters with regular arrows (indicated by a blue gauge in the bottom right corner), coatings are applied by pressing R (PC), Triangle (PlayStation), or Y (Xbox) once the gauge is full. Each bow can equip two coatings from the following list:

  • Power Coating – Increased damage
  • Pierce Coating – Enhanced piercing with Dragon Piercer
  • Close-Range Coating – Increased close-range damage
  • Paralysis Coating – Inflicts Paralysis
  • Exhaust Coating – Inflicts Stun and Exhaustion
  • Sleep Coating – Inflicts Sleep
  • Poison Coating – Inflicts Poison
  • Blast Coating – Inflicts Blast

Tracer Arrows, while consuming coating points, offer a significant tactical advantage. These arrows stick to the monster, guiding subsequent shots for increased accuracy and weak point targeting. Use them strategically.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
