While awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! A recent update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation has significantly enhanced the experience.
This update boasts improved game stability and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play has been upgraded with shared item pickup and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also received optimization. The mod loader's capacity has been expanded to handle over 100 subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a core focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, exceeding those in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the game's accessibility, stating the team prioritized making it playable for everyone.
Players will have extensive control over enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, damage received, and other parameters such as game pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirmed that prior experience with DOOM games isn't required to understand the narrative of DOOM: The Dark Ages or its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
