Disney has shared exciting updates about the future of Disneyland Resort, revealing new details about its upcoming attractions and expansions. According to the latest announcement from Disney Parks Blog, the *Coco*-themed attraction will be located in areas currently used as backstage space near Disney California Adventure’s Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. This marks a significant transformation for the region, bringing one of Pixar's most cherished stories to life in a whole new way.
Simultaneously, the new Avatar-themed land will replace a portion of the existing Hollywood Backlot area. As part of this transition, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will permanently close in early 2026 to make room for the immersive world inspired by James Cameron’s *Avatar* films.
The *Coco* attraction was officially announced at D23 2024 and will mark the first-ever ride-through experience based on the Oscar-winning film. The attraction will be built primarily in backstage areas, with construction set to begin this fall. Drawing inspiration from classic Disney rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, the *Coco* attraction promises an emotional and visually rich journey through the Land of the Dead.
Disney Imagineers are leveraging the latest Audio-Animatronic technology to bring the skeletal cast to life in unprecedented ways. These figures will be integrated throughout the attraction in surprising and immersive moments that guests truly have to see firsthand to appreciate fully.

While still in the early stages of development, the Avatar-themed land will take over part of the current Hollywood Backlot. More information, including construction schedules and specific design elements, will be released in the future. The area will be inspired by *Avatar: The Way of Water* and future installments in the franchise, offering guests a chance to explore Pandora like never before.
This won’t be the first time Pandora—The World of Avatar has been brought to life; since 2017, it has captivated visitors at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park in Florida. Now, Disneyland will offer its own version tailored to the unique storytelling strengths of the resort.

Though the closure of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! marks the end of an era, fans can look forward to experiencing the brand-new Monsters, Inc. land at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. This upcoming expansion will feature the first-ever suspended coaster in a Disney theme park, taking guests through the iconic door warehouse in a thrilling new format.
In addition to these major entertainment developments, Disney also confirmed plans for a new parking structure and transportation hub on the east side of the Disneyland Resort. This area will replace part of the Manchester employee parking lot and will include approximately 6,000 parking spaces.
The complex will also incorporate shuttle and rideshare zones, security screening areas, and dedicated traffic access off Disney Way to improve overall traffic flow and guest accessibility. A pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard will connect to a newly designed esplanade arrival experience, enhancing how guests arrive and move around the resort.
