Crunchyroll Releases Kardboard Kings, a Card Shop and Collector Simulator

Crunchyroll's Android app now features Kardboard Kings, a captivating single-player card shop management game. Initially launched on PC in February 2022, this title from Henry's House, Oscar Brittain, and Rob Gross (published by Akupara Games) has made its way to consoles and now mobile devices via Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll members can download it for free.

Kardboard Kings: The Scoop

Players step into the shoes of Harry Hsu, inheriting his card-collecting father's shop and the legacy of the Warlock card game. He's aided by Giuseppe, a surprisingly shrewd cockatoo business partner with a knack for spotting great deals.

Set in a charming seaside location, Harry must navigate the complexities of customer satisfaction – or, if inclined, engage in some playful price gouging. The game boasts charming characters, witty dialogue, and references to other card games and anime. Over 100 uniquely designed cards, complete with quirky illustrations and shiny variants, add to the appeal.

Gameplay Details

The core gameplay loop is simple: buy low, sell high. However, as the game progresses, card conditions and set rarities fluctuate, adding layers of strategic depth. Factors like foil finishes and card popularity impact value.

Kardboard Kings also includes a roguelite deckbuilding mode on Card Game Island, where players face challenging duelists, organize tournaments, host booster pack parties, and manage inventory through clearance sales.
