Owlcat Games has exciting news for fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, announcing their latest cRPG, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, following the success of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. Revealed at the Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase, Dark Heresy invites players to step into the shoes of an Inquisitor, a feared enforcer in the Imperium tasked with rooting out heresy. The game's setting is the grimdark universe during the Noctis Aeterna, with the mysterious Tyrant Star looming in the background. Players will command a varied warband, from a seasoned Catachan Guardsman to a Kroot mercenary, in a battle against corruption and heresy.
Dark Heresy promises deep narrative engagement with intricate investigations, a strategic turn-based combat system, and impactful choices that shape the story. Building on the foundations laid by Rogue Trader, it offers fully voiced dialogues and an immersive dive into the dark mysticism of the Inquisition. The game is slated for release on PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, though no specific release date has been announced.
In addition to Dark Heresy, Owlcat Games shared plans for further content for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. The second major story expansion, Lex Imperialis, is set to launch on June 24, 2025. This expansion introduces the Adeptus Arbites, the Imperium's enforcers of law, and a new companion, Solomorne Anthar. Players can expect new battle Familiars, such as cybernetic eagles and cyber-mastiffs, enhancing both the gameplay and narrative experience.
Owlcat also announced Season Pass 2 for Rogue Trader, which includes two new expansions and an appearance customization pack. The third expansion takes players into a Necron vault overseen by Trazyn the Infinite, where they'll face ancient guardians and uncover relics linked to the Von Valancius legacy. The fourth expansion, Processional of the Damned, offers a haunting exploration of a voidship graveyard, promising a descent into madness and mystery. Both expansions will introduce new companions, quests, mechanics, and approximately 15 hours of additional gameplay each.
