The Witcher 4 developer, CD Projekt Red, has alerted players to a widespread scam involving fake beta test invitations for The Witcher 4. On April 16, CD Projekt Red took to The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account to address the scam, stating that they had received reports from the community about fraudulent beta test invites.
The official statement read, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
They reassured fans that any legitimate future beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher’s official social media channels and websites.
The Witcher 4 was officially unveiled during the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that spotlighted Ciri as the game's protagonist. This announcement sparked significant discussion within the community, especially since Geralt had been the central character in the previous three games.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, addressed fan reactions to Ciri's new role. Weber empathized with fans' attachment to Geralt, yet remained confident in the team's decision. He stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4's Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, also expressed appreciation for the fans' support of Ciri's lead role. He emphasized, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
Developers have promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series, featuring new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no specific release date has been announced. Stay tuned to our articles for the latest updates on The Witcher 4!
