The rise of cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, uniting the Call of Duty community like never before. However, this convenience comes with potential drawbacks. This guide explains how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and weighs the pros and cons.

Should You Disable Crossplay in Black Ops 6?

Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 is a strategic decision with both advantages and disadvantages. The primary motivation for disabling it is to create a more level playing field. Console players (Xbox and PlayStation) often prefer to avoid PC players due to the inherent advantages of mouse and keyboard controls, offering superior aiming precision. Furthermore, PC players may have easier access to mods and cheats, despite Activision's Ricochet anti-cheat system. While Ricochet works to combat cheating, reports of cheaters persist in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces the likelihood of encountering cheaters.

However, a significant downside is the reduced player pool. Disabling crossplay dramatically shrinks the number of players available for matchmaking, potentially leading to longer search times and matches with less-than-ideal connections. Our experience shows that finding matches takes longer with crossplay disabled, and connection quality may suffer.

How To Turn Off Crossplay in Black Ops 6

Black Ops 6 Crossplay Setting

Turning off crossplay in Black Ops 6 is simple. Locate the Crossplay and Crossplay Communications toggle in the Account & Network settings. It's usually near the top. Toggle the setting from "On" to "Off" by pressing X or A. This can be done within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty HQ page. Note that in the image above, the setting was accessed via the Quick Settings menu after being added as a favorite.

You might find the setting greyed out and unavailable at times. In certain modes, like Ranked Play, Call of Duty has historically mandated crossplay. While intended to promote fairness, the result has often been the opposite. Fortunately, crossplay disabling will be available in Season 2 of Black Ops 6, giving players more control in high-stakes modes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
