*Monster Hunter Wilds* has streamlined many of the series' systems, simplifying gameplay to the point where tracking monsters is often unnecessary. However, there's one notable exception: the elusive Black Flame. Here’s how to locate and confront the Black Flame in *Monster Hunter Wilds*.
In Chapter 3 of the main storyline, the Black Flame, also known as Nu Udra, makes a brief appearance before disappearing into the Oilwell Basin. Your mission is to track it down and defeat it.
Begin your search by leaving the Base Camp and heading towards Zone 9, as shown in the map screenshot below.
As you make your way to Zone 9, keep an eye out for tar tracks on the ground. Interact with these tracks to have your Hunter pick up the Black Flame's scent. This action will trigger your scoutflies to follow the trail, making it easy to pinpoint the monster's location. Simply follow the green path illuminated by the scoutflies until you reach Zone 9, where a massive flaming crater marks the area.
Nu Udra is a tentacled beast capable of unleashing fire and other flame-based attacks. For a smoother battle, focus on severing a few of its tentacles first. This strategy will allow you to access its inner weak points more easily, increasing your chances of obtaining valuable materials after the fight.
To combat the intense heat of the region, it's advisable to carry Cool Drinks. These will prevent your health from depleting due to the high temperatures.
That's how you can effectively track and defeat the Black Flame in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. For more tips and detailed guides on the game, including how to change your Palico's language and capture other monsters, be sure to check out resources on The Escapist.
