Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The update, weighing in at a mere 230MB (though requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to focus on bug fixes and language file updates.
Developed by Arkane Lyon (currently working on Marvel's Blade), Dishonored 2, released in late 2016, introduced a new protagonist, Emily Kaldwin, and memorable missions like "The Clockwork Mansion" and "A Crack in the Slab." While Arkane Lyon continues to thrive, its sister studio, Arkane Austin (responsible for the original Dishonored and Prey), was unfortunately impacted by the 2024 Xbox studio closures.
This latest patch for Dishonored 2 has, however, disappointed some fans. Many hoped for a performance enhancement, particularly a much-requested 60 FPS mode. Unlike other Arkane titles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, despite the original Dishonored and even the standalone expansion, Death of the Outsider, receiving 60 FPS upgrades. A potential 60 FPS update might be considered for the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, though this remains speculative.
The future of the Dishonored franchise is uncertain. While a third mainline entry is desired by many fans, the closure of Arkane Austin and Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade suggest any new Dishonored game is likely years away.
