A Decade in the Making

Dragon Age: The Veilguard's development has been a marathon, not a sprint. Numerous delays, spanning almost a decade, have marked its path. The project, initially codenamed "Joplin," began in 2015 after Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, BioWare's focus shifted to Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, impacting The Veilguard's progress. Further complicating matters, the original design clashed with BioWare's live-service strategy, leading to a complete development halt.

Revived in 2018 under the codename "Morrison," the game was formally announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022 before settling on its current title.
