EA Sports FC 25 Gameplay Overhauled

Electronic Arts' soccer simulators have long been a subject of scrutiny among gaming enthusiasts. The criticism isn't solely focused on the monetization strategies; the technical performance of these games has also come under fire. In response to the backlash against EA Sports FC 25, the developers have taken significant steps to address these concerns with a "Gameplay Refresh Update." This update encompasses over 50 modifications to enhance the game mechanics, including:

  • Significant changes to core gameplay systems such as assists, shots, goalkeeper play, and defense play.
  • Corrections to common situations where defenders unrealistically caught up with the ball carrier.
  • Smoother gameplay in attack, making it easier to maneuver the ball.
  • A reduction in the frequency of reverse tackles and interceptions by the AI.
  • A significant decrease in the effectiveness of crossing passes.
  • Quicker support from players when they are in familiar roles.
  • Improved offside detection during offensive runs by AI-controlled players.
  • Slightly better accuracy for normal and aimed shots from outside the penalty area under simple conditions.

Despite these efforts, only 36% of the 474 player reviews at the launch of EA FC 25 were positive, indicating a predominantly negative reception. The community has voiced strong criticism regarding Electronic Arts' perceived greed, the numerous bugs and crashes encountered, and issues with PlayStation controller recognition.

Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat system has led to its incompatibility with Steam Deck, adding to the list of grievances from the player base.
