Exciting news is on the horizon for fans of the Elder Scrolls series, as Bethesda is reportedly gearing up to announce a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in the coming weeks, with a release not far behind. This rumor comes from NatetheHate, who previously accurately predicted the announcement date of the Nintendo Switch 2. His latest tweet suggests that the Oblivion remake will be revealed either this month or next, a claim that has been corroborated by VGC.
While the exact release window remains a bit unclear, NatetheHate hints at a launch before June, whereas VGC suggests it might hit shelves as early as April. This eagerly anticipated remake could rejuvenate one of the most beloved entries in the Elder Scrolls saga, bringing it to a new generation of gamers.
Back in January, Mp1st shed light on what seems to be an accidental leak from a former Virtuos employee, hinting at the remake's details. Microsoft, when approached by IGN, chose not to comment on the matter. According to Mp1st, Virtuos is using Unreal Engine 5 to craft this significant rework, promising more than a simple remaster. The gameplay is set to see several changes, including updates to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the HUD.
The changes to the gameplay mechanics are designed to enhance the player experience. For instance, the Blocking system has been revamped with inspiration from action games and Soulslikes, addressing the original's perceived monotony and frustration. Sneak icons will be more prominent, damage calculations have been overhauled, and the knockdown effect from depleted Stamina will be harder to trigger. The HUD has been streamlined for better clarity, and hit reactions have been added to make combat responses more evident. Archery, too, has been modernized for both first and third-person views.

Rumors of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023 when documents from the FTC versus Microsoft trial over the Activision Blizzard acquisition revealed a list of unannounced Bethesda games. Compiled in July 2020, the list included an Oblivion Remaster slated for the financial year 2022, among other titles. However, many of these projects faced delays or cancellations. Notably, what was originally listed as a "remaster" might have evolved into a more ambitious "remake" project.
As for the platforms, with Microsoft now embracing multiplatform releases and the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, the Oblivion remake could potentially launch across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and even the new Switch. If the Switch 2 arrives around June, Oblivion might be part of its launch window, opening up the game to an even broader audience.
