The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil, a festive event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and seasonal items. A newly released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history within Azeroth.
This in-game event, much like its real-world counterpart, offers players special rewards and activities each year, often introducing new collectibles obtainable through drops, gold, or other gameplay methods.
The video, narrated by PlatinumWoW, explores the origins of Winter Veil, weaving together the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and the Tauren's traditions of spiritual reflection, renewal, and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the rise of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized the holiday, reflecting real-world Christmas traditions.
The Legend of Metzen the Reindeer
No exploration of Winter Veil lore is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer boasts a history of kidnappings—three times, to be exact: by pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the modern game. The video concludes with a humorous thank you from Metzen, voiced in the iconic tones of Thrall (also voiced by Chris Metzen).
This collaboration marks another successful partnership between World of Warcraft and PlatinumWoW, following previous videos on topics such as Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths. Blizzard's recent collaborations with content creators, including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, have enriched the WoW experience for players.
Players can still participate in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5, 2024. This year's event features a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet for all players. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special Winter Veil gift—perhaps a surprise like last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy!
