Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements Revealed
FF7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on the upcoming PC version, addressing fan questions about mods and the possibility of DLC. Let's delve into the details.
DLC: A Fan-Driven Decision
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints shifted priorities towards completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that finishing the final installment is paramount. However, he left the door open: significant player demand for additional content could sway the decision.
"We did consider episodic DLC for the PC version," Hamaguchi explained, "but completing the final game takes precedence. However, we will consider strong player requests."
A Message to the Modding Community
The PC release will undoubtedly attract modders. While official mod support isn't included, Hamaguchi expressed respect for the modding community's creativity, urging them to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
"We respect the modding community and welcome their creations, but offensive content is unacceptable," Hamaguchi clarified.
PC Version Improvements
The PC version boasts graphical enhancements, including improved lighting and texture resolutions, addressing criticisms of the PS5 version's sometimes uncanny character rendering. Higher-end PCs will benefit from significantly improved 3D models and textures. However, adapting the game's mini-games for PC proved challenging due to the complexity of configuring unique key settings.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This follows the PS5 release on February 9, 2024, which garnered widespread critical acclaim. For more information, check out our dedicated FF7 Rebirth article.
