In the latest episode of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Final Fantasy VII Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi announced exciting news regarding the game's availability on the upcoming Switch 2. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 release, is set to debut on Nintendo's next-generation console.
Intergrade builds upon the original Final Fantasy VII Remake, offering improved graphics, lighting, and the inclusion of Intermission, the DLC focusing on ninja Yuffie’s adventures in Midgar. Currently available on PS5 and PC, Hamaguchi shared that the Switch 2’s upgraded capabilities will enable the game to run smoothly, promising a full-spec recreation of Midgar. “With the power of the Switch 2, we can now deliver this experience in its entirety,” he expressed.
Hamaguchi highlighted the convenience of playing Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the go, stating, “Being able to enjoy this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play during your daily commute.” He also noted the potential for fostering community engagement through the game’s portability, making it easier for players to showcase their progress and engage in discussions with others.
The Switch 2 version will feature GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends while gaming and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi expressed enthusiasm about this development, emphasizing his excitement for strengthening the partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy franchise.
While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been officially confirmed for the Switch 2 thus far, Hamaguchi teased the possibility of future entries in the series, including Rebirth and the concluding chapter, making fans hopeful for a complete trilogy on Nintendo’s platform.
Notably, the Final Fantasy series began its journey on Nintendo consoles, transitioning to Sony’s PS1 for Final Fantasy VII. With the remake trilogy, it seems the iconic series is returning to its roots on Nintendo hardware.
