Helldivers 2 has finally introduced Super Earth maps to battle on as part of the highly anticipated Heart of Democracy major update. As previously rumored, this update—now live on PC and PlayStation 5—marks the Illuminate's invasion of Super Earth. Players can now choose missions set on our home planet within the bustling Mega Cities and join forces with SEAF soldiers to fend off the invaders.
These urban environments feature operations aimed at liberating the cities, actions that Arrowhead emphasized will significantly influence planetary campaigns. This update is a key component of Helldivers 2's ongoing Galactic War, a community-driven meta-narrative orchestrated by the developers.
According to the official announcement, the Helldivers’ mission is clear: repel the Illuminate invasion by seizing control of territories where their fleet is landing. Described as an intense game of intergalactic tug-of-war, players will face a challenging battle, constantly gaining and losing ground.
Players can activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as showcased in the update trailer. Additionally, SEAF troops will join the fray, either engaging enemies independently or following Helldivers for temporary support during missions. However, players must remain cautious of civilians navigating the streets, as managing friendly fire remains a crucial aspect of gameplay.
This update underscores Arrowhead's dedication to maintaining Helldivers 2's momentum following its successful launch last year. In response to concerns about shifting focus to their upcoming project, "Game 6," CEO Shams Jorjani reassured fans that Helldivers 2 remains the studio's top priority. A small team will handle future projects slowly, while the bulk of Arrowhead’s resources will continue to fuel Helldivers 2's longevity.
Jorjani expressed confidence in the game's sustainability as long as players continue to engage and purchase Super Credits, the game's premium currency used for Warbonds. He noted that despite challenges last summer, strong player support has kept the game thriving.
"The Heart of Democracy update is just the beginning," Jorjani stated. "We’re committed to delivering content for years to come."
