At one point, Microsoft seemed to confirm that the game would launch before June 2023. However, The Game Awards came and went without any mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Now, with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, could this finally be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The buzz among fans started with a seemingly innocuous detail: a picture of a cake. Here’s how it unfolded.

Sharp-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture to an image of a chocolate cake. Pellen's tweet added fuel to the speculation: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”

At the time, rumors were swirling about a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal on January 16, which indeed turned out to be true. Nintendo officially announced the Switch 2, yet many questions about the next-gen console remain unanswered. Was Pellen hinting at the Switch 2 reveal with his tweet? If so, what was the significance?

This is where the Hollow Knight community's detective work kicked into high gear. Fans reverse-searched the cake image and traced it back to a recipe for Brooklyn Blackout Cake on Bon Appétit, published on April 2, 2024. Why is this date important? Because Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2 will air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans are convinced that Pellen initiated an alternate reality game (ARG) for Silksong with his tweet and the cake image.

The investigation didn’t stop there. Fans are now trying to decode Pellen’s new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True offered an intriguing theory: “The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of ‘everydruidwaswr.’ I think 'wr' is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC.”

Adding another layer of mystery, Pellen’s new X/Twitter name is "little bomey." Fans have noted that Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs. What could this signify?

It's important to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. Has Nintendo secured Hollow Knight: Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all just wild speculation from fans desperate for news?
