Keanu Reeves has delivered an exciting update for fans eagerly awaiting a sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. The actor, known for his iconic role as John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, recently shared that the long-awaited Constantine 2 is now poised to move forward with a script.
Following the success of The Matrix, Reeves took on the role of Constantine in the 2005 film, which, despite its initial reception, grew into a beloved cult favorite. Over the past two decades, fans and Reeves alike have expressed a strong desire for a sequel. Now, it appears their wishes might finally be granted. Reeves confirmed in a recent interview with Inverse that a pitch meeting at DC Studios for Constantine 2 has been successful. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves explained. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this update is promising, it's important to note that Constantine 2 has not yet been officially greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The project does not appear in the lineup of the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have publicly mentioned it as a confirmed project. Therefore, the sequel remains on the cusp of realization.
Reeves also hinted that, should the film come to fruition, it would continue in the same universe as the original. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, before humorously adding, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This news follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who, in a September interview with ComicBook, revealed that a script for Constantine 2 is already in his inbox. However, di Bonaventura admitted to being hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for its quality. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough,” he said. “I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
