Let the demon hunting begin! Netflix is bringing the iconic video game series "Devil May Cry" to life with a new anime adaptation, and fans have been treated to a tantalizing trailer. What's more, the legendary late voice actor Kevin Conroy will posthumously star in this thrilling adaptation.
Conroy, celebrated for his iconic portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman across numerous animated films and TV shows, takes on the role of VP Baines in the series. You can hear his distinctive voice at the beginning of the trailer, marking another poignant posthumous performance following his acclaimed work in "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3" in July 2024. Conroy's passing in November 2022 at the age of 66 left a void in the voice acting community, making his final performances all the more cherished.
Joining Conroy in the cast are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch lending his voice to the protagonist, Dante.
According to the official synopsis from Netflix, "Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."
The series is helmed by producer Adi Shankar, who will serve as the showrunner. Shankar is renowned for his work on films like the 2012 "Judge Dredd" reboot, "Killing Them Softly" starring Brad Pitt, and "The Voices" with Ryan Reynolds. He's also attached to an "Assassin's Creed" adaptation, though its status remains uncertain since its announcement in 2017.
The animation is being handled by Studio Mir, a respected South Korean studio known for their work on "The Legend of Korra" and "X-Men '97." "Devil May Cry" is set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025, promising a thrilling blend of action and supernatural intrigue.
