Warhorse Studios confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), the anticipated medieval RPG, will launch completely DRM-free. This follows online speculation and misinformation regarding the inclusion of digital rights management (DRM) software.
Responding to fan inquiries, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, definitively stated during a recent Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM, including Denuvo. He addressed the confusion caused by circulating rumors, emphasizing that the studio never confirmed DRM integration. Stolz-Zwilling urged players to cease inquiries about DRM, stating that any information not officially released by Warhorse is inaccurate.
"KCD 2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM system at all," Stolz-Zwilling clarified. "We never confirmed it. There was some misalignment and misinformation, but ultimately, there will be no Denuvo."
The absence of DRM is welcome news to many gamers concerned about potential performance impacts and negative experiences associated with DRM software, particularly Denuvo. While serving as anti-piracy protection, Denuvo has faced criticism for allegedly causing performance issues and even rendering games unplayable for some users. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged the negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, in medieval Bohemia, following a devastating event in his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
