Get ready for an exhilarating ride with Mario Kart World, the exclusive new title launching alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. This isn't just another racing game; it's an expansive open-world adventure set in the beloved Mushroom Kingdom. Featuring a plethora of iconic characters, a diverse range of vehicles, and sprawling regions to explore, Mario Kart World promises a free-wheeling experience like never before. You can now preorder this exciting game from various retailers, including Walmart.
Out June 5
Mario Kart World stands out by offering just one edition of the game, available for $79.99. Alternatively, you can snag a bundle that includes the game and the Nintendo Switch 2 console for $499.99.
Opting for the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World saves you $30 compared to buying the console and game separately. However, keep in mind that this bundle comes with a digital copy of the game, meaning no physical cart or game box. If you're a collector and prefer a tangible copy, you might want to consider spending the extra $30 for the standalone game.
Purchasing Mario Kart World on its own sets you back $79.99, which is $10 more than the standard price for AAA titles on PlayStation and Xbox this generation. While I'm not thrilled about the price increase, I understand that the cost of game development has soared. I'm hopeful that the ambitious scope of Mario Kart World justifies the higher price point.
Mario Kart World is set to be the most expansive Mario Kart game to date, adopting an open-world format similar to the Forza Horizon series. In Grand Prix mode, you can seamlessly transition from the end of one race to the start of another, driving across the open world.
The game's tracks are dynamically affected by weather conditions and time of day, altering visibility and traction. Players can even venture off the main track to explore nearly anywhere in the Mushroom Kingdom. Each race accommodates up to 24 drivers, a significant increase from previous titles.
A new mode, Knockout Tour, challenges players to race from one end of the world to the other, navigating through checkpoints. Fall behind at any checkpoint, and you're out of the race. For a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode allows you to explore at your own pace, team up with friends, and capture memorable moments.
More details about Mario Kart World will be revealed during the Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for more insights.
