Marvel Rivals enthusiasts have voiced their concerns about the game's reward system, particularly focusing on the challenges of obtaining nameplates without spending real money. Launched in December 2024, the game has quickly gained traction, with its Season 1 update bringing a host of new features and rewards. However, the method of acquiring nameplates remains a sore point for many players.
The game's Season 0 cycle offered limited rewards, but the Season 1 battle pass expanded significantly, including ten character skins among other customizable items like sprays and emotes. Despite these additions, nameplates, which serve as a prominent way for players to distinguish themselves, have become a focal point of criticism. Some nameplates are only available through real-money purchases, a barrier that many players are unwilling to cross.
Reddit user DaPurpleDerpleOf highlighted the issue on the Marvel Rivals fan hub, suggesting a solution to convert Lore Banners, which some players find more visually appealing, into nameplate rewards. This could potentially ease the frustration of grinding for nameplates within the battle pass.
In addition to battle pass progression, Marvel Rivals features a Proficiency Points system. These points are earned through gameplay, such as dealing damage and defeating enemies, and unlock various rewards. However, players feel that the Proficiency system is lacking and argue that nameplates should be included as rewards to better reflect their skill and mastery of the game's characters. One player noted, "Proficiency rewards are super lacking. I hope they add more tiers and rewards down the line," while another called the addition of nameplates a "no-brainer."
The recent Season 1 update introduced significant changes, including new characters like Sue Storm and Mister Fantastic from The Fantastic Four, along with new maps and modes. These updates have refreshed the game's roster and gameplay dynamics, with the rest of The Fantastic Four set to join later. Season 1 is expected to run until mid-April, providing players with ample time to engage with the new content and hopefully see improvements to the reward system.
