Marvel Snap's Sudden Removal from App Stores: A Detailed Overview
Developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance's Nuverse, Marvel Snap faced an unexpected ban alongside other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8. The game was removed from iOS and Android app stores on January 18, 2025, leaving many players frustrated.
While PC users can still access the game via Steam, mobile players are experiencing authorization issues. Second Dinner expressed surprise and assured players via an official Platform X statement: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.”
The abrupt removal, without prior warning, caused significant upset, particularly for those who continued making in-app purchases before the lockout. Interestingly, the ban didn't affect all ByteDance applications; games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain accessible.
Recent additions to the game, such as the Moonstone card, have been overshadowed by this event. Moonstone, a 4/6 cost Ongoing card, is a powerful addition to the Ongoing archetype, capable of leveraging the ongoing effects of lower-cost cards in her lane. Unlike many inexpensive Ongoing cards that primarily boost power, Moonstone's ability to passively acquire these effects allows for rapid power accumulation. The existing pool of low-cost Ongoing cards, including Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, already provides a substantial foundation for Moonstone's synergy.
