The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has secured its screenwriters in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the talented duo behind the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Announced recently, Daley and Goldstein will pen the screenplay for this much-anticipated adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. Adding to the excitement, Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, will be producing the film.
Daley and Goldstein have been on a creative roll, having not only written and directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves but also their original film, Mayday. Their writing credits also include high-profile projects like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and skill in the industry.
The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a Monopoly movie date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but that project never materialized. Subsequent attempts in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro teaming up with a script by Andrew Niccol, and in 2019, it was reported that Kevin Hart and director Tim Story were attached to the project. However, none of these earlier versions came to fruition.
The current momentum for the Monopoly film was reignited with Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, setting the stage for a fresh start. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the screenplay, fans are hopeful that this version will successfully "pass Go" and deliver an engaging cinematic experience.
