Speculation surrounding Nintendo’s rumored Switch upgrade has persisted for years, but now that the details are out, they’ve exceeded expectations—supporting 120fps and up to 4K resolution when docked. During today’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, several features of the console were showcased.
Starting with the display, the Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a 7.9-inch screen, slightly larger than its predecessor. Despite maintaining the same thickness (13.9mm), it doubles the pixel count, offering a crisp 1080p resolution in handheld mode at up to 120fps. The screen is an LCD panel with HDR capabilities. When docked, it can achieve up to 4K resolution and HDR as well.
The Joy-Con controllers feature enhanced magnetic connections and a release button for easy detachment. The SL and SR buttons are larger for improved horizontal play, and the analog sticks are also bigger. Additionally, this segment confirmed mouse support for the Joy-Cons.
The handheld model includes a built-in microphone with noise-canceling technology and supports 3D audio for compatible titles. It also features a sturdier, adjustable stand compared to its predecessor, along with a top USB port for external camera connectivity or charging in tabletop mode.
Internal storage capacity has been bumped up to 256GB.
