Nintendo has recently updated the iconic look of Diddy Kong, following the significant redesign of his larger counterpart, Donkey Kong earlier this year. These changes were first noticed by fans in official artwork and early footage from Mario Kart: World Tour.
The latest modifications to Diddy Kong's appearance were revealed through promotional materials displayed at Licensing Expo 2025 in Las Vegas, as well as on Nintendo's official website. According to Nintendo Life, the refreshed design gives Diddy a more cartoonish aesthetic, featuring softer, rounder eyes and a warmer, friendlier grin.
Visitors to the Licensing Expo were also treated to the redesigned characters, as shared by attendee Cptn_Alex on social media. The images showcase the new visual direction taken for both Diddy and Donkey Kong.

Although Nintendo has not officially commented on the updates, industry watchers believe these changes are closely tied to the characters' appearances in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Even Princess Peach has undergone a subtle transformation, with her in-game representation aligning more closely with her cinematic counterpart.
Donkey Kong is set to return in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title, Donkey Kong Bananza. While Diddy Kong's involvement remains unconfirmed, the inclusion of other Kong family members such as Cranky Kong suggests his potential role in future projects. Additionally, the highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, titled Super Mario World, is expected to feature further appearances by Nintendo's beloved primates, complete with their new designs.
