Microsoft appears ready to launch a remastered version of Halo: Combat Evolved in 2026.
At the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s head of gaming, hinted at several upcoming titles for next year—such as the new Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War: E-Day, and "the revival of a classic that’s been with us from the start."
Although the nod to Halo is unmistakable, The Verge reporter Tom Warren has clarified that this specifically refers to a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster.

Warren had previously reported on this project’s development, noting it may also launch on competing platforms like PlayStation 5. Microsoft previously delivered a Halo CE remaster with 2011’s Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, later incorporated into Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
This new release is not an entirely original Halo game, as Halo Studios—formerly 343 Industries—is already developing a new title using Unreal Engine 5. In 2024, the studio shared a seven-minute video showcasing Project Foundry, an experiment to demonstrate a Halo game built in Unreal Engine. While primarily a technical demo, it revealed a potential new direction for Xbox’s flagship series after 2021’s Halo Infinite.
