Pizza Tower and Castlevania Hit the Switch Arcade

Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? A flurry of surprise releases, too! This typically quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's a welcome change. We've got news, a review of today's eShop additions, and our usual sales lists. Let's dive in!

News

The Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivered

Combining two smaller showcases was a clever move, resulting in a wave of announcements. While a complete rundown is impossible here, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new Atelier and Rune Factory titles, and much more. I highly recommend watching the video; even skimming it will reveal many appealing titles for diverse tastes.

Select New Releases

Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)

A third Castlevania compilation, unexpectedly released alongside the Direct, features three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the infamous arcade game, Haunted Castle, and a vastly improved M2-developed remake. This collection, boasting excellent emulation and a wealth of features, is an exceptional value.

Pizza Tower ($19.99)

This Wario Land-inspired platformer, another surprise release, delivers frantic, high-speed gameplay. Players must navigate five colossal floors of the Pizza Tower to destroy it and save their restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this a must-have, but even those without strong Wario feelings should consider it if they enjoy challenging platformers. A review is pending.

Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)

The surprise releases continue! It's Wednesday, and these unexpected releases are a welcome boost. Goat Simulator 3 does what Goat Simulator always does. While Switch performance is unconfirmed, other platforms have experienced occasional struggles. Proceed with caution, although poor performance might ironically enhance the game's chaotic nature. Ultimately, it's a question of whether the silliness of goats in an open world is worth the risk of potential technical issues.

Peglin ($19.99)

While it's easy to criticize missed opportunities, EA's failure to bring PopCap games to Switch seems a significant oversight. For Peggle enthusiasts, Peglin is a fantastic alternative. Previously available on mobile, this title blends Peggle mechanics with turn-based RPG roguelite elements. A full review will follow shortly.

Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)

Kairosoft's shop simulation formula gets a fresh coat of paint with the Doraemon license. Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story retains the familiar Kairosoft gameplay, incorporating characters from the popular Doraemon manga and anime. The license is well-integrated, and fans might even spot cameos from the creator's other works.

Pico Park 2 ($8.99)

More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can participate via local or online multiplayer. The puzzle stages require teamwork and strategic thinking. A solid addition for those who enjoyed the first game, but unlikely to attract newcomers due to its limited innovation.

Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)

An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple gameplay at a budget-friendly price.

SokoPenguin ($4.99)

A Sokoban-style puzzle game featuring a penguin. One hundred levels of crate-pushing challenges.

Q2 Humanity ($6.80)

Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Players utilize character abilities and drawing mechanics to solve problems. Up to four players can enjoy local or online multiplayer.
