The Pokemon Company has taken the significant step of acknowledging and addressing the shortages of the highly anticipated Scarlet and Violet — Prismatic Evolutions expansion for the Pokemon TCG. This marks the first time the company has publicly recognized the supply issues surrounding this new set.
Announced in early November 2024, with pre-orders opening shortly thereafter, Prismatic Evolutions was set to launch globally on January 17, 2025. This release was poised to kick off the new year with excitement for Pokemon TCG enthusiasts. However, the expansion quickly faced widespread shortages worldwide, including in the United States, prompting frustration and complaints from fans on social media.
In response, The Pokemon Company issued a statement to IGN, expressing understanding for the disappointment caused by the shortages and confirming that they are actively working to increase production. "We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokemon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to address this," a company representative stated.
Reprints of the Prismatic Evolutions set are currently in production and expected to reach licensed distributors soon, although no specific timeline was provided. While some fans have pointed fingers at scalpers for the shortages, The Pokemon Company attributes the issue to "high demand," without further elaboration.
In addition to the reprints, The Pokemon Company announced that more Prismatic Evolutions products will be available in the coming months, as previously mentioned during the set's initial reveal in November 2024. Upcoming releases include:
Fans eager to experience the new cards can start earning Prismatic Evolutions cards through the Battle Pass in the Pokemon TCG Live mobile game, available from January 16.
