Robert Eggers is set to direct a sequel to the cherished classic, Labyrinth, following the success of his gothic horror film, Nosferatu. According to Variety, Eggers will not only direct but also co-write the sequel to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy film, which originally starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Collaborating with him on the script will be Sjón, with whom he worked on The Northman. Previously, a sequel was in development with Scott Derrickson, known for Sinister, but it has not seen any progress since 2023. Consequently, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have chosen to advance with Eggers' vision for the new sequel.

Play*Labyrinth*, originally released in 1986, featured David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth, who abducts Jennifer Connelly's baby brother. The plot follows her journey through a dark fantasy realm, aided by a colorful cast of Henson puppets, to rescue her sibling.

In addition to the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also working on a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English, hinting at a transformation into a wolf monster as part of the narrative.

Eggers' latest film, Nosferatu, which hit theaters last Christmas, is a remake of the 1922 silent film by F.W. Murnau. It is set in 19th century Germany and follows a young real estate agent tasked with selling a castle in Germany to a mysterious count in Transylvania. The story unfolds with the agent and his wife Ellen encountering vampiric nightmares. Nosferatu has received four Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. You can find our review of Nosferatu here.
