Smite 2's eagerly awaited free-to-play open beta is now accessible on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam Deck, marking a significant milestone for fans of the third-person MOBA genre. The launch follows a successful closed alpha phase and promises an enhanced gaming experience built on Unreal Engine 5. With a year in development since its announcement, Smite 2 introduces refined visuals and combat mechanics, along with a revamped item shop that offers flexibility across god classifications. Players can dive into the action, taking on the roles of gods from diverse cultures to battle it out in a 5v5 format and siege the enemy team.
Starting January 14, the open beta became available across all mentioned platforms, allowing gamers to download and play for free. Alongside this launch, Titan Forge Games released a new patch for Smite 2, introducing a wealth of content. This includes the addition of Aladdin, a new god created specifically for Smite 2. Aladdin brings unique abilities to the game, such as running along walls and reviving after death through his companion's power to grant three wishes. His ultimate ability captures enemies, forcing them into a 1v1 confrontation, staying true to his legendary tale.
The Smite 2 roster expands with the inclusion of Geb, the Egyptian God of Earth; Mulan, the Chinese Ascendant Warrior; Agni from the Hindu Pantheon; and Ullr from the Norse Pantheon. Additionally, the open beta brings back the beloved Joust mode, where players engage in a 3v3 format on a smaller map. Both the Conquest map and the Assault game mode are also featured in the beta.
Titan Forge Games’ creative director emphasized that Smite 2 is a significant improvement over its predecessor in many aspects. The developer expressed gratitude for the community's feedback during the closed alpha, which helped refine the game. Looking ahead, the team has promised "ambitious content" set to arrive in 2025, ensuring a bright future for Smite 2.
While the game is widely available on major platforms, Nintendo Switch users will have to wait, as the developers are concerned about the console's ability to run the game smoothly. However, Titan Forge Games remains open to the possibility of bringing Smite 2 to the Switch 2. Meanwhile, fans of the series can already download and immerse themselves in the open beta of this exciting sequel.
