Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds New Features and Mechanics Revealed

Sega and the Sonic Team are set to launch Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which could feature the largest roster in the series to date. According to a PlayStation.blog post from February 12, 2025, by Sega of America Associate PR Manager Thalia Piedra, the game promises to include "iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes." While the trailer focuses primarily on Sonic characters, the official website confirms a launch roster of 23 characters, with more to be added post-launch.

The trailer showcases a diverse lineup, including Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and characters from Sonic Riders like Jet, Wave, and Storm. Fans will also spot Zavok and Zazz from the Deadly Six, Team Dark members Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega, as well as Dr. Eggman with Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic. The Chaotix team, featuring Vector, Charmy, and Espio, along with Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big, rounds out the initial roster.

One of the standout features of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the introduction of Travel Rings, which allow characters to move between different worlds in real-time during races. These rings will transport players to new environments known as CrossWorlds, offering a theme park-like experience with surprises such as large monsters, engaging obstacles, and beautiful scenery.

The game also introduces dynamic tracks that evolve with each lap, drawing inspiration from previous titles like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Players will navigate through 24 main tracks and explore 15 different CrossWorlds, ensuring a fresh and transformative racing experience each time.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to offer the most extensive vehicle customization seen in the series. A preview shared on the game’s official Twitter (X) account on February 17, 2025, showcased numerous customization options, including modifications to the vehicle's front and rear parts, wheels, body color, tires, cockpit, and overall glow.

Players can also enhance their gameplay with Gadgets, tailoring their play style with 23 different power-up items. The game will feature 45 unique original vehicles, including the return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders, allowing players to race on flying hoverboards for a boost-based experience.

Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka emphasized that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date," promising a thrilling and comprehensive racing experience.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Closed Network Test Announced

Get ready for a sneak peek at Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds with the upcoming closed network test. Registration opened on February 12, 2025, and will close on February 19, 2025. The playtest will run from February 21, 2025, to February 24, 2025, worldwide.
