Spectre Divide has been in the spotlight ever since it was revealed that the well-known streamer and former esports pro, Shroud, was involved in its development. However, a big name doesn't always guarantee a successful project. Today, Mountaintop Studios announced its closure and the upcoming shutdown of the shooter's servers.
The studio itself will cease to exist by the end of this week, while the servers will remain online for just under a month. During this period, the studio has committed to refunding players for their purchases. Unfortunately, the game struggled to attract a substantial audience or generate sufficient revenue to sustain operations.

It's easy to feel disheartened by yet another unsuccessful project, but this situation underscores the immense challenge of breaking into the live-service game market. Let's be honest—Spectre Divide didn't bring anything groundbreaking or revolutionary to the table, which failed to draw players in droves. Even Shroud's popularity and esports background couldn't secure its success. The reality is that there's a significant divide between top-tier players and casual gamers, each with entirely different priorities.
In the end, another esports-driven idea has fallen short in the world of game development. Press F to pay respects.
