To leverage the console's hardware, the PS5 version includes several platform-specific enhancements. According to Sony’s PlayStation Blog, features include DualSense adaptive triggers and light bar feedback that react to player health and ship integrity. Additionally, the touchpad offers quick shortcuts for switching viewpoints and accessing both the map and hand scanner. The controller’s built-in speaker plays in-game audio logs and non-local ship intercoms.

PS5 Pro owners can choose between a Pro Visual Mode running at 4K resolution and 30 FPS, or a Pro Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS while maintaining enhanced visuals.

Free Lanes and Terran Armada Also Arrive on April 7

Bethesda describes the accompanying update as "Starfield’s most expansive free update yet." Called "Free Lanes," this quality-of-life improvement allows players to fly freely between planets within a single star system. The update also increases space encounters and introduces new resources for gear and ship customization. Furthermore, it adds options for upgrading Starborn abilities and carrying gear into New Game+.

The Terran Armada DLC focuses on the Terrans, a new robotic faction threatening the Settled Systems. It introduces Incursions—combat events against these hostile robots that can happen anywhere in the Settled System. While central to the story, Bethesda notes these Incursions also serve as repeatable combat encounters with rewards. The expansion includes numerous ships and ship parts, a reprogrammed Terran Armada robot companion named Delta, new gear, and story-related rewards.

According to the PlayStation Blog, this content aims to make Starfield feel larger, deeper, and more rewarding for both new and veteran players.

Steam Achievements Suggest More Terran Armada Systems

Some achievements involve building and transferring an outpost to a faction, convincing Delta that the player is worthy of the Captain title, fully upgrading Delta, and demonstrating the superiority of artificial life.

Other descriptions mention clearing Incursions, installing spaceship equipment modules, applying Rank 4 Legendary Effects, collecting all Action Figures, and retrieving inventory from another universe. These entries suggest new mission goals, companion progression paths, equipment upgrades, and repeatable combat encounters, though Bethesda has not fully detailed every aspect in its official preview.
