The buzz surrounding the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is palpable within the gaming community. Analysts have shared with IGN their expectations of a launch price around $400, a sentiment echoed by a recent Bloomberg report based on insights from Japan-focused analysts. This price point marks a notable increase over the original Nintendo Switch.

However, speculation doesn't stop there; some analysts have hinted to Bloomberg that Nintendo might even push the price up to $499. Despite the potential cost, the consensus among experts is that the Switch 2 is poised for a monumental launch, potentially becoming the biggest console debut in history, regardless of its price tag.

"They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price," remarked Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto to Bloomberg.

The anticipated success of the Switch 2 at launch is largely attributed to the high demand for its initial game lineup. Toto predicts the release of a new Mario Kart, hinted at by Nintendo during the Switch 2 reveal, alongside a new 3D Mario game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4, all within the console's first year. Additionally, third-party support is expected to be robust, with Activision's Call of Duty among the titles.

Rumors are swirling about a plethora of third-party games coming to the Switch 2. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis expressed intrigue about the Switch 2's rumored Joy-Con mouse mode. French game and accessory maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed they have games ready for the Switch 2. The much-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be in the lineup, and EA has indicated that Madden, FC, and The Sims would be well-suited for the new console.

It's important to note that Activision has not yet officially announced its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has remained silent on the Bloomberg report.

As for the release date, June 2025 is increasingly mentioned in both online discussions and gaming media. Robin Zhu, a Japan-based analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in June with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If these units sell out quickly, the Switch 2 could surpass the sales records of its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5.

Concerns have been raised about the potential impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war on the Nintendo Switch 2's price. The Trump administration has imposed new tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, which could affect the cost and availability of video games and consoles. However, Bloomberg points out that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, with one analyst suggesting that this diversified manufacturing approach could mitigate risks for Nintendo.

Despite the wealth of information already available, much remains unknown about the Switch 2. Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2, where more details about the console are expected to be revealed.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed its backwards compatibility and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, such as the full game lineup and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, remain undisclosed. The Joy-Con mouse mode theory has gained significant attention.

Last month, a Nintendo patent hinted that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. This suggests that the console will utilize gyro mechanics similar to those in smartphones without screen locks. Unlike the original Switch, which used rails to secure the Joy-Cons, the new controllers will use magnets, allowing them to be attached on either side. This design change, while subtle, could offer players more flexibility in button placement and potentially introduce new gameplay mechanics.
