Farewell, SwitchArcade Readers, and a fond farewell to TouchArcade!
This is it, the final regular SwitchArcade Round-Up from yours truly. After several years, circumstances necessitate a change of course. But we're going out with a bang, featuring reviews by Mikhail and Shaun, new release summaries, and the usual sales lists.
Following the success of Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star, Imagineer’s collaboration with Hatsune Miku feels like a natural progression. This Joy-Con-only title (no Pro Controller support) blends boxing and rhythm game mechanics for a surprisingly effective workout. It includes a dedicated mode for Miku's songs alongside the standard tracks. Features include adjustable difficulty, free training, warm-ups, progress tracking, and unlockable cosmetics. While the music is excellent, the main instructor's voice is a bit jarring and might need to be muted for optimal enjoyment. Best used as a supplement to other fitness routines rather than a standalone program.
SwitchArcade Score: 4/5 -Mikhail Madnani
Magical Delicacy from sKaule and Whitethorn Games cleverly blends Metroidvania exploration with cooking and crafting. The charming pixel art, music, and extensive settings options create a strong first impression. While the Metroidvania aspects are well-executed, inventory management and UI interaction could use improvement. Some frame pacing issues were noted on Switch, but overall it plays smoothly. The game shines on handheld devices like the Switch or Steam Deck. Further updates could significantly enhance the experience.
SwitchArcade Score: 4/5 -Mikhail Madnani
This sequel to the 16-bit classic improves on the original with a more polished experience. Ratalaika Games' enhanced emulation wrapper includes bonus features like box and manual scans, achievements, a sprite gallery, a jukebox, and cheats. Only the Super NES version is included, which is a slight drawback. Fans of the original and those seeking a solid 16-bit platformer will find this a worthwhile purchase. The improved presentation makes this a superior release.
SwitchArcade Score: 3.5/5 -Shaun
This prequel acts more like an expansion to the original Metro Quester, introducing a new Osaka setting, dungeon, character types, weapons, skills, and enemies. The turn-based combat, top-down exploration, and strategic gameplay remain intact. The new setting introduces canoe travel across water sections. While demanding patience and careful planning, the rewarding gameplay will appeal to fans of the original and newcomers alike.
SwitchArcade Score: 4/5 -Shaun
