Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999
This year's TennoCon delivered a knockout punch with the announcement of Warframe: 1999, a major update promising a nostalgic trip back to 1999. Get ready for a retro-futuristic adventure unlike any other!
The journey begins with a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," arriving in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved character, this quest sets the stage for the main event, introducing the world of 1999 and the new Warframe, Sevatgoth Prime, and its signature weapons. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999 Earth, where the Y2K bug manifests as a deadly virus threatening global devastation. The setting? Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot. Navigate this retro-dystopia using the new Atomicyles – versatile vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Commanding these futuristic rides are the Hex, a team of six unique characters.
The Hex, each sporting a Protoframe – a Warframe design showcasing the human within – includes Arthur (Excalibur), Aoi (Mag), and Quincy (the new CYTE-09 Warframe). CYTE-09 will also make its way to the Origin System, sporting a stylish beret.
A stellar voice cast brings the Hex to life, featuring Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Engage with these characters through in-game instant messaging – a fun, authentic 90s touch.
Adding to the 90s atmosphere, players will face off against On-lyne, a five-member boy band infected by Technocyte Coda. Their infectiously catchy music, including the hit single "Party of Your Lifetime," is available on major streaming services.
Fashion takes center stage with significant updates to the game's fashion system. Players can equip two fashion frame loadouts and switch between them seamlessly. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System. These skins unlock fully voiced lines for battle and idle interactions.
Beyond Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes announced a collaboration with THE LINE animation studio to produce an anime short based on the update, launching later this year. Additionally, high-fidelity Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (early 2025) are on their way.
With Warframe: 1999 arriving this Winter, and exciting content already rolling out, download Warframe now from the App Store and prepare for a time-traveling adventure!
