In Avowed, upgrading your weaponry is crucial for survival. Early game encounters feature mostly Common (Level I) weapons and enemies. Upgrading Weapons and Armor:

While some Fine Quality items can be found or purchased, others require upgrading. Gear effectiveness is tracked by Quality, indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman numeral. Common gear is Green (I), Fine is Blue (II), with three intermediate upgrade levels (+1 to +3).
