NieR: Automata's Type-40 Sword: A Guide to Acquisition
Small swords in NieR: Automata are characterized by their rapid attack speed and compact hitbox, making them versatile weapons throughout the game. While weapon upgrades enhance their effectiveness, powerful, upgradable weapons like the Type-40 sword significantly boost character strength. However, obtaining the Type-40 sword requires completing specific side quests.
Obtaining the Type-40 Sword
The Type-40 sword is the reward for completing the side quest "Find a Present," the final quest in a series involving Operator 6O. This requires completing two preceding quests. Here's a step-by-step guide, including chapter selection points:
Post-Chapter 5: After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a call from Operator 6O initiating the "Investigating Communications" quest. Complete this immediately as it's easily missed.
Chapter 6 & 7 Progression: Advance through the main story, completing Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and initiating Chapter 7.
"Terminal Repairs": After speaking with Pascal about A2 and exploring the city ruins, Operator 6O will contact you again, directing you to an access point to start the "Terminal Repairs" quest.
"Find a Present": While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, a final call from Operator 6O will introduce the "Find a Present" quest via an inbox message.
Reward: Completing "Find a Present" unlocks the Type-40 sword, delivered to your inbox.
