With the *Thunderbolts\** movie set to hit theaters, Marvel Comics is ramping up its publishing strategy to match the excitement. Beyond their role in the blockbuster *One World Under Doom* crossover event, the Thunderbolts are getting a fresh start with an all-new series launching just as the film debuts on the big screen.
MARVEL has announced *New Thunderbolts\**, a brand-new comic series penned by Sam Humphries of *Uncanny X-Force* fame and illustrated by Ton Lima, known for his work on *West Coast Avengers*. While the timing of this release clearly aligns with the upcoming film, *New Thunderbolts\** carves out its own identity. Bucky Barnes takes center stage as team leader, echoing the movie's casting spotlight, but the overall lineup is dramatically different. This new roster brings together some of Marvel’s most powerful—and unpredictable—characters, including Clea, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Namor, Hulk, and Carnage, with Eddie Brock currently wielding the Venom mantle.
The series kicks off with Bucky Barnes and Black Widow confronting a terrifying new threat: sinister doppelgängers of the Illuminati that pose a grave danger to the entire Marvel Universe. To counter this menace, they assemble a bold new team of elite powerhouses. However, uniting such a volatile mix of antiheroes, monsters, and mercenaries will be anything but easy.
"I love every iteration of Thunderbolts," said Humphries in a MARVEL press release. "I'm thrilled to continue the franchise's proud tradition of hard-hitting action, explosive personalities, and jaw-dropping twists into a bold new era. This is a crew of seven of the most dangerous and unpredictable forces across the Marvel Universe. Assembling a super team is like curating the perfect dinner party—but this one’s wild, chaotic, and unhinged. So I ran with it."
Ton Lima shared his enthusiasm: "I'm having a blast working on this book with Mr. Humphries and the team. Just look at this lineup—it’s insane. These characters don’t waste time talking; they go straight into action! That’s what makes drawing them so thrilling. None of them hold back, so neither can I."
