After a stellar Xbox Developer Direct to kick off 2025, Microsoft and its impressive array of first-party studios are poised for success. Which Xbox game series excites you the most? Which one provided you with the most enjoyment during the golden era of the Xbox 360? Or, if you've never owned an Xbox console, which series are you eagerly anticipating on other platforms like PlayStation, as Microsoft continues to expand its library across different ecosystems?
With Microsoft's acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, the selection of legendary game series is vast. This tier list includes series from Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard, provided there have been multiple entries in the series—sorry, MachineGames and Indiana Jones, we'll include you once there's a sequel. Note that this isn't a comprehensive list of all Xbox game series, but rather a curated selection based on current relevance and historical impact. Here's my personal tier list, shaped by my gaming experiences over the years:
Simon Cardy's Xbox Games Series Tier List
For me, Doom is an undeniable S-tier choice. The recent entries rank among my favorite first-person shooters, and I'm thrilled to see that Doom: The Dark Ages suggests id Software is continuing to excel. I've also placed Forza Horizon in the S tier; these games are, perhaps only surpassed by Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge, the best racing games I've ever played. Placing Halo in the A tier might surprise some, but while Halo 2 and 3 are among the finest campaign shooters ever made, recent inconsistencies prevent me from ranking it higher. Additionally, I'm more of a Fallout fan than an Elder Scrolls enthusiast—I'd choose power armor over a dragon any day.
Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you believe Gears of War is Xbox's finest series, or are you a staunch defender of Fuzion Frenzy? Feel free to create your own tier list for Nintendo consoles and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
