Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana cleverly introduces challenging bosses, pushing players to master the game's mechanics as they progress. While not overly lengthy, the game offers a satisfying number of boss encounters. Initially, you might need some guidance, but by the time you face Gyalva, the Lord of the Blazing Prison, you should have a solid grasp of combat, abilities, and game mechanics.
Following your victory over Guilen, the Fire Eater, you'll continue through the Zone of Lava to face Gyalva. The key to victory is strategic positioning: fight from one end of the bridge.
This battle severely limits your movement options, as the bridge platforms are constantly disrupted by Gyalva's attacks. You'll be repeatedly jumping to attack Gyalva, utilizing wind magic to maximize damage output in short bursts. The Ys franchise consistently delivers satisfying boss battles, and overcoming Gyalva is no exception.
While Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, a remake of Ys III, expands on the franchise's lore, Gyalva is a new addition to the boss roster. Gyalva employs several devastating attacks; while the fight itself is straightforward, Gyalva can inflict significant damage quickly. Gyalva moves around the bridge, often launching sections of it into the air with fiery attacks.
Consider upgrading Adol's abilities and equipment before this fight, aiming for at least level 21. This shouldn't be too difficult if you've been diligently defeating regular enemies.
Gyalva uses two types of spinning attacks. The first involves Gyalva sweeping across a section of the bridge, sending affected platforms airborne. The second is a full-bridge sweep, causing all platforms to flip. Both attacks can severely damage an under-leveled player.
To avoid the first attack, quickly move to either side of the affected area. For the second, the only safe spot is on one of the bridge's ledges. Staying close to a side ensures a safe retreat to the ledge.
Avoid the very edge of the bridge to prevent being cornered. Instead, strategically attack Gyalva before retreating to the nearest ledge.
Gyalva launches a fireball onto the bridge, launching platforms into the air. While damaging, this attack provides an opportunity to land several hits on Gyalva.
Torches along the bridge periodically erupt in flames, with fireballs arcing between them. These bursts inflict damage, but there's no clear pattern to predict them. Wait for a burst to end before moving through the area.
