"Age of Empires Mobile Introduces Mercenary Troops System"

Ever dreamed of witnessing Joan of Arc leading Roman Centurions into battle? Or perhaps Hannibal Barca deploying Japanese Samurai to conquer Rome? With the latest update to Age of Empires Mobile, these scenarios are now possible thanks to the introduction of the new Mercenary Troops system.

Once you reach level 26, you'll unlock the Mercenary Camp, a new structure that lets you contract and recruit powerful units typically unavailable to your chosen faction. Not only can you hire these mercenaries, but you can also unlock and upgrade technologies to enhance their combat effectiveness. To kick things off, you can secure your first mercenaries for free through a new event that's currently live.

The Mercenary Troops system introduces a diverse range of units, including Byzantine Cataphracts, Swiss Pikemen, Persian Immortals, Indian Battle Elephants, Roman Centurions, Egyptian Chariot Archers, Japanese Samurai, and Korean Archers. Each of these units comes with upgradeable tech to boost their already impressive battlefield prowess.

Age of Empires Mobile Mercenary Troops System

The new Mercenary troops system evokes memories of Total War, where I fondly recall overwhelming foes with a horde of mercenaries in games like Rome: Total War and Medieval II. However, this feature might be divisive among players, as some may feel it disrupts the game's balance. Only time will tell how well the Mercenary Troops system will be received by the community. Could we see custom units like the historical Landsknechts in future updates? We'll have to wait and see.
