Amazon's highly anticipated adaptation of the video game "God of War" is set to captivate audiences with not just one, but two seasons already confirmed. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who took the helm after the departure of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, shared insights into his involvement during a conversation with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the iconic series Battlestar Galactica.
Moore expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in. So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."
Despite not being an avid gamer himself, Moore humorously recounted his attempts at gaming, mentioning classics like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He admitted that the complexity of modern controllers posed a challenge, quipping, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead."
In his new role, Moore will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the God of War series. His extensive experience includes working on acclaimed shows such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the 2000s reboot of Battlestar Galactica.
While the project saw some changes in its creative team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains an executive producer, ensuring a strong connection to the source material. The series will be based on the critically acclaimed 2018 installment of God of War.
Amazon's swift decision to renew other video game adaptations like the Fallout TV show and Secret Level following their successful launches is a promising sign for the God of War series. Fans can look forward to an engaging and faithful adaptation of this beloved gaming franchise.
