Master the Art of Parrying in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Parrying enemy attacks in Avowed offers a thrilling counter-attack opportunity, turning their offensive momentum into a decisive advantage. This guide details how to unlock and effectively utilize this crucial skill.
Unlocking the Parry Ability:
The Parry ability isn't immediately available. Navigate to the "Abilities" menu, then select the "Ranger" tab. You'll find Parry in the top middle column. To unlock it, invest an Ability point into any of the three core ability trees. Three ranks of Parry are available:
Rank | Player Level Requirement | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | N/A (1 Point Spent) | Unlocks the Parry ability. |
2 | Player Level 5 | Increases Parry efficiency by 25%, enhancing stun. |
3 | Player Level 8 | Increases Parry efficiency by 50%, enhancing stun. |
At level 10, the "Arrow Deflection" ability unlocks, allowing you to parry projectiles.
Executing a Parry:
Successful parrying requires precise timing; block immediately before an enemy attack connects. A metallic clang and a visual cue confirm a successful parry, staggering the enemy. Mastering the timing may take practice, but it's less demanding than in titles like Dark Souls or Elden Ring.
Parry Limitations:
Not all attacks are parryable. Attacks indicated by a red circle require dodging. Furthermore, only melee weapons (one-handed, two-handed, or a shield in your off-hand) can parry. Ranged weapons (guns, wands, bows) and grimoires cannot be used for parrying.
Benefits of Parrying:
Parrying stuns attackers, creating openings for significant damage. This defensive maneuver enhances both survivability and offensive potential. While ideal for melee builds, its accessibility and the ease of respeccing in Avowed allow for experimentation.
