Blizzard is incapable of running their own game: Diablo 3 event cannot be extended

Diablo III's annual "Fall of Tristram" event, traditionally concluding on February 1st, has prompted player requests for an extension. Community manager pezradar explained that extending the event is currently impossible due to its hard-coded nature, precluding server-side adjustments.

Regarding the delayed launch of Diablo IV Season 34, pezradar apologized for the disruption to player weekend plans. The delay, resulting from issues with the automatic season scheduler that prematurely ended Season 33 in early January, necessitates the creation and testing of new code to ensure a smooth seasonal transition and protect player progress. Improved communication regarding future delays is also planned.

Meanwhile, Wolcen Studio has announced Project Pantheon, a free-to-play combat RPG incorporating extraction shooter mechanics. A closed alpha test begins January 25th in Europe, expanding to North America on February 1st. Game director Andrei Cirkulete describes the game as blending "the tension and risk-reward of an extraction shooter with the battle dynamics of combat role-playing games," aiming to create a unique experience drawing inspiration from titles like Diablo and Escape from Tarkov. Players will assume the role of a Death messenger, striving to restore order to a ravaged world.
